Kate Turkington is the author of 13 books, including the first critical study of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart (Studies in English Literature: Things Fall Apart) pub. Edward Arnold, London, 1977) and Certificate English (an English Language grammar for ESL students; pub Nelson, London, 1968) among other academic publications and school text books. Her The South Wind and the Sun, a collection of African writing for secondary schools (De Jager-Haum, 1983) is widely used in South African schools and colleges. Her three mainstream books, There’s More to Life Than Surface (Penguin, 1998) and Doing it with Doris (Penguin, 2004), Yes Really! A Life (Tafelberg 2018) are part spiritual journey, part travelogue, part autobiographical.

Kate Turkington is one of South Africa’s best-known broadcasters, travellers and travel writers. From Tibet to Thailand, Patagonia to Peru, Kashmir to Kathmandu, St Helena to St Albans, the Arctic Circle to Antarctica, like Shakespeare’s Puck she has girdled the world.
