Ticket to Ride…

I think everybody loves trains. I certainly do. In September I was privileged to ride in some of the most efficient trains in the world on some legendary routes such as Switzerland's Glacier Express, the Bernina Express and the fabled Wilhelm Tell  Express that seamlessly teams up train and boat to transport you through two of Switzerland’s most beautiful regions – Ticino and Central Switzerland.

Switzerland's legendary Glacier Express

The Glacier Express (not an express train at all, because it takes over seven leisurely hours to chug from Zermatt to St Moritz), but it passes through through some of Europe's most spectacular scenery.

I think everybody loves trains.

A spectacular cable car ride and then on top of the world in St Mortiz

From the window of the Bernina Express

The journey on the Bernina Express is reckoned to be one of the most spectacular Alpine crossings since Hannibal and his elephants. And it certainly lives up to its reputation. I crossed the 65m-high Landwasser viaduct, sped through 55 tunnels and across 196 bridges, and along cross-border lines through and over stunning scenery – gorges, glaciers and a spiral viaduct – that are now on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

And Swiss trains are always on time.

Always on time to the minute...

And then of course, there's India's fabled and fabulous Palace on Wheels...

Every individual carriage aboard the Palace on Wheels has a captain and steward

A highlight of the journey is a visit to the most beautiful building in the world - the Taj Mahal

You'll meet interesting people...

...of all kinds

...and visit wonderful places like the ancient fort at Chittaurgarh...

...and Jaisalmer - the Blue City - on the border of Pakistan
